Fundraising for Afghanistan Orphanage Project: Logar Province

Afghanistan continues to face one of the world's most complex humanitarian crises. Since August 2021, the country has experienced severe economic contraction, widespread unemployment, declining household incomes, reduced public services and a significant reduction in international development assistance. These challenges have compounded the impacts of more than four decades of conflict, climate-related shocks, and the socioeconomic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, millions of Afghans struggle to meet their basic needs, with children among the most severely affected.

In Logar Province (located approximately 60 kilometres south of Kabul), the situation is particularly concerning due to the limited availability of specialised institutions capable of providing comprehensive residential care and developmental services for orphaned boys. Existing facilities are insufficient to meet the growing demand, while many vulnerable children remain without access to safe accommodation, quality education, psychosocial support, and structured life-skills development. Extended families caring for orphaned children are themselves facing severe economic hardship, further limiting their capacity to provide adequate care and educational opportunities.

Orphans in Logar Province are among the most vulnerable members of society. Many live in poverty and face limited access to education, healthcare, nutritious food, and safe accommodation. Without appropriate support, they are at increased risk of child labour, exploitation, neglect, abuse, and social exclusion.

After successfully raising money for our first orphanage in Afghanistan, and the construction progressing well, An-Nakhlah Aid is on a mission to construct a purpose-built orphanage on approximately 250 square metres of land. The facility will comprise a multi-storey building with two floors and a basement, designed to provide safe residential accommodation and essential services for 150 orphans. The orphanage will include dormitories, classrooms, a library, computer laboratory, study halls, administrative offices, a dining hall, kitchen, health room, sanitation facilities, storage areas, and recreational and sports facilities. The long term objective is for the orphans to develop into healthy, educated and self-reliant members of society.

The total cost of this project is £100,000. With permission of Allah, we have already secured £60,000. We are now seeking to raise the remaining £40,000 to bring this project to completion.
